Stability in Leadership
Consistency in leadership is important to continue to move Chestermere forward. Over the past 10 years, Chestermere has experienced a high turnover in both councils and administrative positions. This has made it difficult to move forward. Under my leadership we have gained a lot of traction and stability will be important so we can now capitalize on this traction.
Under my leadership we:
- Have pulled a complete 180 on our reputation with the province
- Continue to establish a strong relationship with ministers in multiple ministries who are regularly answering our requests for meetings
- Have businesses interested in doing business with Chestermere
- Invited to speak at AB Munis Spring Conference
- Have a strong presence with the Mid Sized City Mayors Caucus
- Established a strong working relationship with our development and building community who are now talking to us more about how they can invest back into the community
Policy Platform
Education
- Ensure that we do not return to a deficit model with schools
- Schools will remain a standing item on Governance and Priorities Meetings
- Ensure that we continue to have school sites site ready so we can take advantage of the school accelerator program
- Continue to build on our strong relationship with our local school boards
Responsible and Responsive Government
- Plan to be on the executive for Mid Sized Cities Mayors Caucus which will help in advocacy to the province for Chestermere
- Continue to improve community involvement in governance through committee work and other feedback opportunities
- Keep government small and keep government effective
- Public Input session to remain
- Continue 15 Minute Meetings with the Mayor
Recreation
- Building of the new Chestermere Recreation Centre
- Make the Mayor's Task Force for Recreation a standing committee of council
- Improvement of green spaces in Chestermere - benches, gazebos, picnic tables
- Improvement of non organized recreational opportunities, especially in the winter months
- Splash park
- Recreation Strategy and Master Plan
Seniors
- Continue to advocate for further opportunities for our community to age in place
- Support for seniors through committees and through supporting local organizations like Whitecappers
Economic Development
- Creation of a Economic Development Strategic Plan
- Continue to advocate for a strong Chestermere Chamber of Commerce
- Improved involvement of the Chestermere Economic Development Advisory Committee
- Continue to attract new businesses and diversify the tax base
Community and Not For Profit
- Working with our development and building community to invest in our community including in our not for profit sector and in recreation
- Creation of a not for profit hub
- Make the Mayor's Task Force for Not for Profits a standing committee of council
- Collaborate with Community Partners on Larger Showcase Events
- Creation of a Parks Master Plan
Community Safety
- Investing in community safety through traffic calming measures and the funding of Community Police Officers
- Lights at the intersection of Rainbow Road and Dawson Way
- More pedestrian traffic signals
- Work with RVS and CCSD on improved school drop off and pick up ideas
Infrastructure
- Continue to work with the City of Calgary and the Government of Alberta on 17th ave, Memorial Drive, Peigan Trail and Glenmore
- Continue commitment to the sidewalk improvement program
